Adaptiv DC has developed interactive and customizable products to be used on the myWall system to support the essential development of motor skills and hand-eye coordination through play. The interactive games and elements can be modified for children as they grow and master different skills keeping playtime fun for them and relevant to their development. We believe that if you want your children to grow and learn, let them play.

Children develop their cognitive and social skills through playtime, and the early development of hand-eye coordination has been found to establish the basis for reading and writing. Hand-eye coordination is the ability to translate visual information to guide your hands to perform a given task like catching a ball or writing. Development of this ability starts in infants tracking objects with their eyes and continues through childhood, most notably in playtime.

Children that strengthen their hand-eye coordination early are found to develop their reading and writing skills quicker; they can track words on a page without losing their place and manipulate a pencil to translate letters to the page with more ease. Hand-eye coordination develops along with fine motor skills from being able to pick up a block to hitting a baseball, children learn these skills as they grow.

Following your child’s growth by age:

Infant to Toddler

In these early years, children develop cognitive recognition and the beginning of basic, fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

  • Follow objects with their eyes, begin to reach for them
  • Grasping objects, move them between hands and food to mouth
  • Recognize placement and direction like inside, outside, up and down
  • Turn pages in a book, hold their own writing utensil

Pre-Schooler

Between three to five years old children will continue to develop and refine their fine motor skills, and with their increasing ability to concentrate, they will be able to work on more complex activities.

  • Increased fine motor skills for tracing shapes and recognize a preference for left or right-handedness
  • Increased understanding of special awareness to include space, direction, and depth perception
  • Strengthen their physical abilities to run, jump, and climb

Grade School

By the time children reach elementary school, they have mastered basic hand-eye coordination tasks and can now focus on mastering other activities of their choosing like sports or musical instruments.

  • Mastered fine motor manipulation for writing and eating with utensils
  • Fully capable of dressing themselves, running, jumping, and playing

The development of hand-eye coordination through playtime will help children to master these skills in a fun and exciting way. Whether they are using building blocks to master fine motor skills, throwing a ball to strengthen hand-eye coordination, or tossing rings to increase depth perception, this playtime is fundamental to their development and learning.
